“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.” – Luke 2:14

Dear Parents and Teachers,

December 25th … It’s Christmas! The very word fills the whole world with happiness. The entire Universe undergoes a dramatic change. Nature too joins in with man to celebrate the birth of Christ. There is chillness in the air, bright lights, stars and festoons adorn every home. Shopping, baking cookies and cakes, gatherings, parties, fun and frolic…But amidst all these festivities we forget the genuine meaning of Christmas. We are so distracted by the material things around us that we seldom remember to focus on what’s most important – The Birth of Jesus. The mystic birth of Jesus is one event that is celebrated all over the globe by the rich and the poor, the young and the old because this gift from heaven came into this world silently… very silently but had a tremendous impact on everyone.

Every little thing on the surface of the Earth symbolically joined in to indicate the birth of Christ. The heavens brightened up with the appearance of the tail star and astronomers acclaimed it as a sign denoting the birth of a king. Jesus’s birth in a manger – a place where the cattle and sheep are tied – showed the simplicity and humility of the Saviour. Though His birth was in a lowly place, three wise men from different corners of the Earth travelled thousands of miles to revere and offer their respects to the king of kings. Nothing deterred them from taking up their perilous journey. The babe in Bethlehem had woven together into a beautiful tapestry man and beast, rivers and seas, trees and birds and animals, the poor and the wealthy, the heavens and all of the Earth…

Jesus is unique, very special, very different and even today He remains the one whom people desire to follow, to understand, to emulate. For some, Jesus is archaic. They want to make the ABSOLUTE, OBSOLETE. Read about Him, meditate, comprehend His messages and you will realize that your queries, queries of the modern generation will find answers. This tiny gift from heaven that was strangely packed was silently delivered upon Earth by God through St. Joseph and Mother Mary.           St. Joseph and Mother Mary with Jesus represent the ideal family. They are fondly and rightly called “The Holy Family”. They were bound together through obedience to God, prayer and patience. Families today are finding it a tedious and uphill task to bind together. This togetherness is lacking, for each one prefers to lead an independent life. All the closeness, understanding, love and tolerance that existed earlier is no longer there. Money seems to be the fundamental need of the hour and in families this has become the only goal.

Children are provided by their parents with all that they desire… expensive clothes, gadgets, bikes and cars but what they really do need is love, care, concern, warmth, support, motivation, encouragement… Dear parents your role today calls for being more responsible and more committed towards your children and towards one another. St. Joseph and Mother Mary stood by each other during several challenging and critical times. There were no arguments, no fights and above all no ego. They complemented one another and successfully crossed the hurdles and led a simple yet very happy life.

Dear children, learn to lean on your parents for support. Love them, honour them, pray for them and give them the respect they deserve. Once families are sculpted into perfection inspite of the many imperfections, life on earth for all will definitely become more happy, more peaceful and more enjoyable. This Christmas season, vow to strengthen relationships and reunite, to love, to sacrifice and to surrender all that you do everyday at the feet of God and you will find miracles happening.
