Spiritual and moral formation

The Cluny Sisters make conscious effort in creating a suitable atmosphere, which motivates the students:

  • To deepen their unique relationship with God and to grow in love and respect for all people.
  • To promote harmony and solidarity based on the “spirituality of communion”.
  • To form the conviction that all human beings are the children of the same Father, created in the image and likeness of God and all are equal in dignity and freedom.
  • To form their conscience, to discern the truth, to discover the Will of God in the events of one’s life, to make right choices in life.
  • To deepen the awareness of the sacredness of life.
  • To learn to develop a deep relationship with God through prayer.
  • To become aware of the challenges of the modern world with the development of new technology and mass media and their impact on self, others and society.
  • To think critically with positive attitude and train them to listen to their conscience and to take responsibility in their decision making.

Strategies for all

  • Conducting morning assembly, value education classes, prayer sessions and retreats.
  • Respecting the freedom and personal conscience of each student.
  • Promoting in all students a rooted-ness in their faith and appreciation of other religions.
  • Providing facilities for campus ministry, meaningful celebration of religious feasts, personal and community prayer, reading of Scriptures, seminars, camps and awareness programmes.

Strategies for the Catholic students

  • Providing sound and systematic knowledge of Catholic faith and leadership training to become committed catholic leaders.
  • Arranging for Eucharistic celebration and Sacrament of Reconciliation periodically.
  • Preparing for reception of Sacraments in collaboration with the parish priest.
  • Paying attention to the teaching of Catechism, reflective personal reading and study of the Bible.
  • Deepening their Christian faith and love for the Church through retreats and spiritual guidance.
  • Helping students to discern the signs of the times whereby God calls them to a specific state of Christian life.

Intellectual formation

The Cluny school helps the students to strive for academic excellence, using all the available means in the school, in a spirit of acquiring and applying knowledge and of collaboration rather than competition. They are trained to develop skills to evaluate and criticize objectively and constructively and to have the capacity and concern to continue their own formation.
Quality Education implies integrating knowledge and understanding and the joy of “learning to know”, “learning to do”, “learning to live together” and “learning to be”. (Report – UNESCO)

  • Teaching the subjects to develop skills and competence rather than memorization of facts.
  • Developing concentration, memory and thought.
  • Encouraging individual and group projects by students.
  • Providing Mass Media Education.
  • Inculcating the habit of reading by making library system accessible to the students.
  • Encouraging teamwork, discussions, quiz, debates etc. so as to stimulate thinking.

Education of the body, emotion & heart

Educate the students to respect life at every level, as the gift of God and develop their conviction on the sacredness of life. Promote health through sports and games.
Provide regular programme of games and outdoor and indoor exercise and yoga.
Make students aware of the importance of health, balanced diet, hygiene, sharing and avoidance of waste, etc.
Develop self-awareness, empathy, self-esteem and self-confidence.
Train students to have a deep respect for one’s body and those of others.
Develop the qualities of the heart such as love, compassion, forgiveness, tolerance and appreciation of creation.

  • Developing skills in athletics, encouraging students to involve in various games so as to develop team spirit and fair play.
  • Organizing sessions on self-awareness, physiology of growth.
  • Inculcating a positive attitude towards life.
  • Encouraging healthy relationship among students and staff.
  • Arranging training programmes for teachers to give sex education.
  • Organizing sessions on marriage and family life.
  • Having a trained counsellor appointed for the guidance and counselling for students.

Social sensitivity & commitment to the poor

Anne Marie Javouhey, the First Woman Missionary, succeeded in liberating the African slaves, thus giving them their dignity and making them realize their rights.
In our Indian context, the marginalized would include the Dalits, tribals, rural poor, slum dwellers, migrants, child labourers, unorganized labourers, etc.
Through exposure and study, students are made to be aware of the social unjust realities, which are against the Will of God and the dignity of the human person.
Students are encouraged to liberate themselves from social conditioning that result in the loss of personal freedom.
Students are motivated to act as agents of social change, liberators of social evils now, and more so as adult members of the society.
Cluny school promotes leadership skills through various youth movements and
co-curricular activities.
Ensure that the poor and downtrodden are the very heart of the educational community.
Make the school accessible and affordable to the poor in the neighbourhood.
Make the resources of the school available to the poor in the neighbourhood.

  • Organizing reach-out programmes in the villages, nearby slums, home for the aged, Street Children’s Home, Physically and Mentally Challenged Children.
  • Giving awareness on HIV/AIDS.
  • Highlighting the importance of justice by making the students aware of the unjust situations in society.
  • Providing facilities for the study of religion and languages.
  • Providing human rights education especially rights of the girl-child.
  • Helping students to discover their own unique strengths and talents so as to find their place in society.
  • Identifying the talented children from the marginalized with a view to prepare them for higher and professional studies.

Concern for Environment

Nature is the unwritten book which speaks to us of the Creator. It is the duty of every person to protect the environment and show respect for God’s creation.

  • Provide education on Eco consciousness and Eco-justice.
  • Conscientize students on the pollution of air, land, water and noise.
  • Nurture in students a sense of wonder and train them to respect the integrity of creation.

Strategies

  • Encouraging students to observe the beauty of nature, to plant trees and to take care of them, take joy in maintaining vegetable and flower gardens.
  • Organizing Eco-Club, to motivate them to take interest in Nature.
  • Making the students aware of global warming, the effects of natural calamities like tsunami, encouraging them to write poems and essays on nature.
  • Giving awareness on Bio-diversity / technology and recycling of wastes.
  • Celebrating Earth Day, Environment Day, etc. to create concern and care for the environment.

Education to culture

Train the students to appreciate and respect what is noble in every culture and cultural values. Be rooted in one’s own culture and open to the other cultures.

  • To respect and appreciate the richness of Indian culture, and the rich heritage of India which are expressed in values and attitudes like silence, interiority, spirit of detachment, tolerance, freedom, hard work, asceticism, respect for others and hospitality.
  • To develop in the students a sense of patriotism, respecting the different cultures around them. They will work for national integration and communal harmony, respecting others without distinction of caste, creed, language and economic status.
  • To instill in students, respect for the National Flag, National Anthem, Constitution and National Leaders.
  • To promote critical thinking and creativity.
  • To become aware of the fundamental rights and duties of Indian citizens.
  • To celebrate Religious, Cultural and National festivals.

Aesthetic formation

Provide opportunities for students to discover beauty, truth and goodness in them and in others and develop an aesthetic outlook in their life.

  • To cultivate among students a sense of beauty and education to truth and goodness; develop an appreciation of the same.
  • To appreciate art, music, dance, drama and literature.
  • To create ability to identify norms of courtesy, appropriate manner of speech, behaviour and dress.

Strategies

  • Encouraging students to learn music and dance so as to foster and appreciate the cultural values.
  • Developing skills in art, drawing and painting and appreciating the art forms.
  • Organizing short educational tour to places of interest, field trips, etc.

Vocational and career guidance

  • To help students to have a clear idea of the meaning of life and to discern God’s plan in their lives, they are made to realize that life is a gift of God to be lived, in the service of the people, especially the disadvantaged.
  • To guide students to discern their aptitude and goal in life that will enable them to face their future with courage.
  • To provide opportunities for career guidance and personal counselling.
